- בַּדַּאיm. (בדי I) 1) liar, misrepresenting. Snh.89b (prov.) כך עונשו של ב׳וכ׳ such is the punishment of the liar ; Ab. dR. Nath. ch. XXX; Gen. R. s. 94 מה טיבו של; ב׳ הזה v. טִיב Kidd.49a he who translates a Bible verse literally (v. צורה), הרי זה ב׳ is a liar (misrepresenting the sense). 2) invention, fiction. Deut. R. s. 5, a. fr. דברים של ב׳ fictitious words (mitigating the original report); ib. דברי ב׳.Pl. בַּדָּאִים, בַּדָּאִין. Y.Gitt.IV, 46a bot. נמצאו הדברים ב׳ things turned out to e false. B. Bath.74a; Snh. 110ab Moses and his laws are true והן ב׳ and they (euphem. for we) are liars. Tosef.Keth.II, 1 ב׳ אנו (ed. Zuck. מבודין) we have been telling a falsehood.
